Tailgate Horseshoes Rules

This game is an exciting disc tossing game using portable boards and discs that can be played indoors or outdoors.

Each disc tossed is an opportunity to score or cancel points. The player/team to score exactly 15 points wins.

Players: 2-4

Equipment: 2 game boards, 6 colored discs, 1 “10” ft. cord.
Setup: Find a flat surface, attach “10” ft. cord to the front of each board, align boards as shown, pull tight, remove cord.
Begin:

2 Players
  • Flip a coin.
  • Winner chooses disc color and tosses discs second.
  • Stand anywhere on (board 1) keeping feet behind the front edge of board.
  • Each player tosses their 3 discs, one after the other toward (board 2) then calculates points.
4 Players
  • Choose partner.
  • Partner goes to opposite board.
  • Same rules apply as 2 players.
  • Partners toss and combine points until they reach exactly 15 points. (If there is a tie, see game point section explained below).
Scoring
Points are only awarded for putting discs into holes.
Closest hole = 1 point, Middle hole = 2 points, farthest hole = 3 points.
The player scoring the most points on a turn has what is called Advantage and tosses discs second.
This changes constantly throughout the game as points are scored.
Continue to alternate tossing discs from (board1) & (board 2) until one player reaches exactly 15 points. (If there is a tie, see game point section).

Instant Win
If at anytime in the game, a player tosses 1 disc into each hole during a turn, the game is over.

Canceling
Anytime a disc is covered by an opponents disc, the points are Canceled and do not count.
Once a point is canceled, the hole is open. The next disc entering the hole is counted for a point.
(e.g. 1 white disc in the 1 point hole covered by 2
black discs would count as 1 point).

Busting
If a player scores more than 15 points, this is called a "Bust".
If a player busts, the scoring is immediate and not dependent on whether the disc is canceled.
When a player busts, subtract the number of points made on that disc from their score. (e.g. if a player had 13 points before they busted, and tossed a disc into the "3" point hole their score would be 10 points.
If a player has any remaining discs, the discs may be tossed to score points.

Game Point
If a player reaches 15 points and still has remaining discs, they must be tossed and touch top surface of the board.
Discs not touching top surface of the board, will be penalized 1 point and game continues.
If there is a tie, the player with the advantage wins.
